Welcome to BooneSociety.org
Rochelle Evans Cochran In the mid 1990's some descendants of the legendary Boone family of pioneer fame came up with a grand idea. They wanted to get to know distant Boone "Cousins" and celebrate their common heritage. Having a family reunion seemed like the best way to achieve this goal. So, in 1996 this band of Boone Cousins gathered together in St. Louis, Missouri, not far from the area Daniel Boone lived out the last 20 years of his life. There, these descendants -- great grandchildren and great nephews and nieces -- held the first modern Boone Family Reunion. The reunion was quite a success. The attendees decided to formalize "The Boone Society" and agreed to host regular reunions. We've come a long way since then. Out of these humble origins would grow an organization whose members are spread far and wide. The Boone Society soon evolved into a reference source for researchers, genealogists and historians. We expanded our scope to locate and preserve artifacts, historical documents and Boone-related historical sites. As more people joined the Society, we learned about many great men and women who make up our family. There was Daniel, of course, but there were also his brothers and sisters, grandchildren, nephews and nieces. It has been said that Daniel was fortunate to have had a good press agent to contribute to his fame. Here at The Boone Society we hope to do likewise for Daniel and for all the other great members of his family. Daniel's family was not the only one named "Boone" in the New World, however, and we know they were not the first. Our members seek information about many different branches of the family, including Bohon, Boon, deBohun, Bone, Bown and LaBoon, who originated in places like England, Sweden, France, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Barbados, and Canada. Through our Boone DNA Project we are investigating the origins of the different variations of the Boone surname. Perhaps the greatest tool available to assist us in our efforts is the Internet. And that brings us to this web site: BOONESOCIETY.ORG. Now, more than ever, we can reach out to those interested in the Boone legacy: descendants, historians, genealogists, teachers, students, pioneer re-enactors...well, you name it -- all are welcomed to partake of our Boone hospitality. Membership in The Boone Society is open to all and I invite you to join. Please explore our web site. You will find articles about many Boone family members. You might find a Boone project you would be interested in helping out with or making a donation to. Maybe you know of a Boone descendant or ancestor you would like to tell us about. Or you might have a question for us. Whatever the case may be we hope you enjoy your visit and we would love to hear from you.
