Canfield D. Boone
enjoyed life to the fullest. His family and friends all share a great loss. His joy in
singing songs with a patriotic theme with the local barbershop quartet will long be
remembered. His ancestors? His wife Linda shared with me that his parents, Howard and
"Gail", originally came from Whiteland, IN, (only a few miles south of
Indianapolis) before moving to Milan.

Born February 2, 1948,
"Bud" Boone knew that his lineage went back to Squire Boone, Daniel's brother,
but had never found the time to research records for the connection. It was one of those
things on his "to do" list.
Here we want to tell his story. We Boone's come from a strong line with lots of the
American spirit! |

OFFICER FROM INDIANA
An Army officer from Indiana was "at ground zero" when an aircraft that was
hijacked by terrorists slammed into the Pentagon, his son said. Lt. Col. Canfield Boone
was among 189 people on a list of those still unaccounted for that was released Friday by
the Defense Department.
Boone, 53, was in his office on the second floor of the Pentagon's E-ring, "right
exactly where the plane hit" Tuesday morning, his son Andy Boone said in a telephone
interview from the family home in Fairfax, Va. "He was at ground zero when the plane
hit," 21-year-old Andy Boone said.
Defense officials told family members at a briefing Thursday that they should not expect
any more survivors from the Pentagon crash, he said.
Canfield Boone grew up in Milan, and later moved to Indianapolis, where he attended Butler
University and met his wife, Linda.
Footnote: A memorial service for Colonel
Canfield Boone was held on Saturday, September 29th followed by his burial at Arlington
National Cemetery as well as one honoring him at the National Guard Building in Arlington
on Monday, October 1st.
